These Boys

I wonder if the magic of being a parent ever wears off? It seems that Willy and I still look at each other in disbelief over all we have created. My mom giggled the other day and painted a dirty nasty picture when she said, “Wait until one of them tells you they hate you”. I told my mom I hated her; I was 16 and I thought I was the cats meow. I also remember the time my mom forced me to take a picture in front of my car on the first day I drove myself to school. I flipped the camera off because I was so angry that she wanted to capture the moment. My mom did nothing but annoy me in my teenage years despite the fact that today she is a huge, and welcomed, part of my life (cheers to growing up and maturing, right?). I want to burst into tears at the mere thought that karma is a effin’ bitch and the time will likely come when I’ll be on the receiving end.
Dear Hooper & Van, don’t grow up. Love, Mom.

  • Maturing is a good thing albeit with a few bumps in the road along the way. Might need to put the camera away during the teenage years:-)

  • I don’t think boys are quite as cruel during those horrid teenage girls. Less hormonal crap going on. I bet dad never told grandma he hated her. I can’t see that happening. Did Willy ever tell his parents he hated them? I can’t see that either. I’m sure they’ll be little punks in their own way, but I hope they always appreciate and love you because you’re pretty damn cool.

    • Willy doesn’t really tell stories like the ones I have. He says he almost hit Niles once and that’s his teenage rebellion claim to fame. He’s got nothing on the shit I put mom and dad through πŸ˜‰ And thanks for saying I’m cool… I doubt they’ll belive I was ever hip, so you’ll have to remind them πŸ˜‰

  • I agree dont think (hope hope!) that boys are not as bad, my brother just went to his room and played guitar if he was being sulky, I swore, drank and ran away from home.. I caused my parents SO much grief they didn’t deserve ah!!
but I guess there will be a day when he doesn’t think I am the funniest person in the world and I will cry when that day comes xx

    • Ya, I’m banking on the boys aren’t as bad theory… but I believe in karma… and given the fact I swore and did horrible things as well, I think they’ll be giving me a run for my money… Or I’ll have a third and it’ll be a girl and she’ll be the death of me. Dun dun dun…

  • Oooh I was a horrid cow to my mother in my teenage years. So “holier than though” – at least we can all commiserate (and hopefully find a little humour in) our children’s rebelliousness in about… say… 15 years? xx

    • I was a horrid cow too. I can’t imagine your little cutie ever saying she hates you, howver… she’s way too angelic looking πŸ™‚

  • My husband & I always joke about how soon it’ll be that our daughter is telling us she hates us/we ruined her life! I told my mom I hated her only once & it was such a silly thing to say. I sure hope I don’t hear those words but I’m already preparing myself [she’s only 6 weeks old]

  • What a horrifying thought! I have kind of made peace with the fact my kids may not always be such big fans of my singing, but when I think about how horrendous teenagers can be it actually makes my blood run cold. And I can’t bear the thought that they might not be willing to let their dear mama photograph every important milestone! πŸ™
    xx
